Transfer news LIVE! Arsenal win Cunha battle, Sesko talks; Chelsea get Garnacho boost; Osimhen to Man United

Transfer news LIVE!
Arsenal have two striker targets in sight as the January window approaches the end game. Talks with RB Lepzig over Benjamin Sesko have reportedly begun, with Mikel Arteta going as far as personally speaking to the striker. Arsenal are also said to be leading the race for Matheus Cunha, though Chelsea have other ideas.
Cunha is also of interest to the Blues, along with Nottingham Forest. Alejandro Garnacho – whose agents were at Stamford Bridge on Monday – is a bigger target, though, with Manchester United understood to be ready to accept bids north of £50million for the Argentine as they look set to improve their bid for Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu.
Tottenham’s injury woes are getting worse, making their transfer needs far stronger amid links with Tyler Dibling and Liam Delap before the window closes. Manchester City are set to announce the signing of Omar Marmoush, while Kyle Walker heads to AC Milan. Marcus Rashford is attracting interest from Barcelona. Crystal Palace ready to field Raymond loan offers
11:32 , Alex Young
Following the end of a two-week trial at Swindon Town, Crystal Palace are open to loan offers for Jadan Raymond from clubs in the EFL, writes Dom Smith.
Swindon, who are managed by Ian Holloway, felt they had to prioritise defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window amid an injury crisis, meaning they did not have the available funds to take on Raymond’s wages for the rest of the season.
Standard Sport understands the 21-year-old attacking midfielder is keen on spending the rest of the season on loan, with the Eagles also on board.
Solskjaer on Rashford and Casemiro interest
11:18 , Alex Young
New Besiktas manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer insists there have been no talks with Manchester United outcasts Marcus Rashford or Casemiro
Solskjaer told TRT Spor: “There’s always a lot of speculation about Manchester United players, always a lot of speculation around me.
“Casemiro, Marcus, two very good players, but I have not spoken to any of them.”
He continued: “We are looking at possibilities for transfers in a few different positions. Serdar [Topraktepe, technical director], at the moment, is helping us a lot, he’s helping us a lot.
“It feels like the group, the energy, they are gelling well together, the coaches, the assistants, him and me.”

Wolves would sell Cunha for £60m
10:35 , Alex Young
Nottingham Forest are ready to make a club-record bid for Arsenal target Matheus Cunha.
Sky Sports report that Wolves would sell for £60million. It remains to be seen if Forest would go that high.
Their current club-record signing is Elliot Anderson at £35m, so Cunha can be filed under ‘smashing’ their transfer record.
Sky Sports report that five teams are in the race for the Brazilian.
Walker on a flight to Milan to complete loan move
10:14 , Alex Young
Kyle Walker will be touching down in Milan at 1pm local time (that’s midday in the UK) to complete his loan move to AC Milan.
AC Milan will be covering his Man City wages until the end of the season and, Fabrizio Romano reports, can make the move permanent for £4m.
Walker’s Man City contract runs until 2026.
Rice resurgence comes at key time amid Arsenal striker search
09:55 , Alex Young
As Arsenal’s search for a new forward this month goes on, Mikel Arteta will have been pleased by the manner of this win over Dinamo Zagreb.
Kai Havertz scored to make it two goals in as many games, while he also took his tally for the season to 14 in 30 appearances.
If he carries on at his current rate, the German will have the best season of his career in front of goal.
Arsenal, however, still need a new forward this month as injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus have left them short in attack.
Benjamin Sesko, who was also on the scoresheet on Wednesday night after finding the net in RB Leipzig’s win over Sporting Lisbon, is a top target – but a deal this month looks hard to do.
RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose stressed on Wednesday that Sesko was not for sale during the January transfer window, with the sense from those within the game that he will be on the move in the summer instead.
With a lack of attackers, the need for Arsenal to have goals from everywhere is paramount and that is why Arteta will have been delighted by Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard scoring in this 3-0 win over Dinamo.

“I am delighted, my family are so proud, and we are all very happy to be here in Manchester.”
Scholes names NINE players who should leave Man Utd
09:07 , Alex Young
Paul Scholes says Manchester United should sell summer signings Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee as one of nine players who should leave the club this month.
Ruben Amorim’s appointment in November has not produced the upturn in results the club desperately need, and Sunday’s home defeat to Brighton saw the manager brand his players as the “worst team” in United’s history.
Scholes is seemingly in agreement and feels the time is up for a number of United’s so-called stars, including two summer signings who were signed mere months ago for close to £100million.
Taking part in a game of ‘Keep or Sell’ regarding United’s squad, Scholes said of De Ligt: “He’s done OK of late but I think I’d sell.”
On Zirkzee he was more emphatic, simply replying: “Sell.”

“But at the moment, I’m not aware of a proper negotiation.”
Tottenham working on two signings
06:50 , Alex Young
Ange Postecoglou said on Wednesday that there is no guarantee that Tottenham will make another signing in January.
And now Fabrizio Romano says Spurs are working on making two more arrivals before the window shuts.
He told GiveMeSport: “They’re working on it, Tottenham need players.
“After [Antonin] Kinsky, they wanted to bring in [Randal] Kolo Muani, but as we know, he’s going to Juventus, so that was not possible.
“The idea remains to bring in at least two players from now to the end of the window.”
Man Utd learn how much they must pay for Dorgu
06:41 , Alex Young
Manchester United are set to return with a second bid for Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu after first was rejected.
A bid worth £23million plus add-ons was rejected earlier this week during a meeting with United director of football negotiations Matt Hargreaves and Lecca president Sticchi Damiani in Milan.

Garnacho prefers Chelsea over Napoli
06:33 , Alex Young

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that representatives from the two clubs met in Milan to try and finalise a deal, but TyC Sports reports that it is Chelsea who Garnacho wants to join.
It is understood that United would want a fee in excess of £50million for the young Argentine – it remains to be seen if either club are willing to splash that kind of cash.
Chelsea make loan bid for Man City target Luiz
06:25 , Alex Young
Chelsea have made an offer to take Douglas Luiz on loan for the rest of the season.
According to reports in Italy, Juventus have made Luiz available just six months after his £42million arrival.

Chelsea’s loan offer has been rejected, reports journalist Fabiana Della Valle, while Manchester City and Arsenal have also been linked.
Arsenal in pole position to sign Cunha
06:16 , Alex Young
A big update on Arsenal’s pursuit on Matheus Cunha, as Fabrizio Romano claims the Gunners are leading the race for the Wolves star – who wants to move.
He told GiveMeSport: “Leading the charge are Arsenal, who made a surprise enquiry through intermediaries at the start of the winter transfer window. The Gunners explored the personal terms required to secure Cunha and found them manageable.
“They began to look into putting together an offer, but Arsenal’s frustration surfaced when they discovered Cunha was simultaneously negotiating a new contract with Wolves, despite a seeming desire to move to north London.
“The situation briefly stalled, but the Gunners remain the frontrunners, particularly as their attack is in need of reinforcements. The difference now with Arsenal’s position is that other clubs are making their own moves – whereas the Gunners would have had a clear run at him two weeks ago.”
Leipzig issue Sesko warning
06:11 , Alex Young
Arsenal have been warned that RB Leipzig have no plans to sell Benjamin Sesko before the January transfer window slams shut.
Sesko is a long-term target of Arsenal, who are in the market for a forward this month after injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.
But asked by Sky Germany if it remains the case that Sesko is definitely not allowed to leave RB Leipzig this month, the club’s head coach, Marco Rose, said: “Yes, that’s still the case!”
Arsenal were chasing Sesko last summer, but the 21-year-old ended up staying at Leipzig and signing a new contract.
As part of that agreement, it has been reported that Sesko can leave at the end of this season for around £60million.

Real Valladolid statement
Wednesday 22 January 2025 16:41 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Real Valladolid have accused Manchester City of encouraging Juma Bah to break his contract to force through a transfer.
“Abdulai Juma Bah and his agent informed Real Valladolid yesterday afternoon of their intention to unilaterally break the contract that binds both parties,” a statement reads.
“Previously, yesterday afternoon, Manchester City sent a statement asking Real Valladolid to open negotiations for the player for a possible permanent transfer. Today, the Sierra Leonean has decided not to show up at his workplace for morning training. For all these reasons, the Club holds the player responsible for the breach of his contractual commitments, and has asked its legal department to initiate disciplinary action in this regard.
“The Club considers that Manchester City, a member of the City Football Group, is behind the Player’s decision, and appears to have advised the player to take this route, which puts Real Valladolid in a defenceless position, after having recently rejected financial offers of a higher amount, even more so when the player is in the protected legal period of his youth stage and, in recent days, had refused to sign the player’s license with a higher-category Blanquivioleta team, since this would entail an automatic increase in his termination clause.
“The Club warned the three parties about this situation yesterday through different requests, warning them of the possible consequences of their actions.”

Amorim responds to Garnacho question
Wednesday 22 January 2025 14:04 , Matt Verri
Ruben Amorim was unwilling to discuss transfer speculation surrounding Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho amid reported interest from Chelsea and Napoli.
Garnacho is reportedly available for sale this month as United look to raise funds to improve their ailing squad, despite spending close to £200million last summer.
Napoli have reportedly made Garnacho their top target to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who last week joined Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth around £60m. United are said to have put a similar price tag on their young forward’s head.
Chelsea, and Tottenham, have also been linked with Garnacho as the January transfer window enters its final days, but Amorim was in no mood to discuss the speculation.
Asked by a reporter for an update on Wednesday, Amorim replied: “Let’s focus on the game, I don’t want to talk about that, especially before a game.”

Footage of Cunha with Arsenal fans emerges
Wednesday 22 January 2025 13:14 , Matt Verri
A video of Matheus Cunha taking pictures with Arsenal fans outside the Emirates Stadium has resurfaced amid transfer links with the Gunners.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for the Wolves star, who has reportedly told his club that he wishes to leave this month amid growing transfer interest in him.
Cunha had been expected to sign a new contract with Wolves, but now instead is expected to exit.
Back in August, on the opening weekend of the season, Cunha was interviewed by ESPN Brazil outside the Emirates Stadium following Wolves’ 2-0 loss to Arsenal.
Cunha had been spending time taking photos with Gunners fans after the game, facing no animosity for being a rival player.
Quizzed on the ‘surreal’ situation, Cunha replied: “It’s amazing. Even though you’re upset having lost the game, to receive affection from fans of the opposition impacts you and is really nice.
“It’s really nice to have this recognition even though it’s not for the club you play for. To have that affection and recognition knowing that you do your job well is rewarding.”

Porro backs Spurs transfer policy
Wednesday 22 January 2025 12:27 , Matt Verri
Pedro Porro believes the form of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall justifies Tottenham’s transfer policy to invest in young stars.
Spurs have made a concerted effort in recent seasons to snap up the continent’s most promising youngsters, having beaten Barcelona to the signing of Bergvall and spent big on bringing in Gray in the last 12 months.
Sections of the Spurs support have called for signings with more experience to tackle the club’s miserable form – which includes seven defeats in nine Premier League games.
But Porro suggests otherwise, insisting the experience will only serve to make the likes of Gray and Bergvall even better.
He said: “When you have injuries and you have signed young players who perhaps are for the future, then you sign them for the future but also so you’ve got options if you get injuries.
“Lucas, Archie and others have been doing so well, but that, at the end of the day, is why the club have brought them in. They’ve had their opportunity and it’s up to them to take it.
“They’re doing a spectacular job for the club and if we go through a bad moment and they’re suffering like us all at this moment, then that’ll make them great players in the future because they’re putting everything out there for the team.”

Wednesday 22 January 2025 12:02 , Matt Verri

Scholes calls for Man United clear-out
Wednesday 22 January 2025 10:09 , Matt Verri
Others on the chopping block for Scholes were Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Casemiro.
