Man in 60s seriously injured after falling down stairs of bus

The man was travelling on a Thames Travel service from Didcot to Oxford at around 1.11pm today (February 1).

The incident happened when the bus was at the junction and pedestrian crossing of Speedwell Street and St Aldates in Oxford.

He sustained serious injuries requiring hospital treatment and remains in hospital, said police.

The force said the incident is currently being treated as a road traffic collision.

Police closed off Speedwell Street and traffic was diverted via Thames Street, leading to severe congestion in the city centre.

Investigating officer David Lund, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was on the bus at the time of this incident to please come forward.

“I have been made aware there were several people on the bus when the incident occurred who may have seen what happened and left the scene prior to police arrival.

“I am also appealing to anyone who was in the area when the bus temporarily stopped at the pedestrian crossing.”
